CLASS DESCRIPTION

Class Duration and CEU Recommendation

  • Class duration: 48 minutes, 36 seconds

Estimated CEU value (recommendation):

  • 48:36 ≈ 0.81 contact hours
  • Using the common standard 1.0 CEU = 10 contact hours, this session is approximately 0.08 CEUs (often rounded by accreditors to 0.1 CEU depending on their policy).

5 Linchpins of Aquatic Facilities explores the five critical “make-or-break” areas that keep aquatic venues operating safely, efficiently, and successfully: mechanical systems, staffing, planning, programming, and access to the site. Using real-world operational examples, the session highlights how filtration and chemical control, preventive maintenance, seasonal readiness, staff preparation, and thoughtful program offerings directly influence safety, guest experience, and financial stability. Participants will also examine how access barriers—such as pricing, location, and operating hours—can unintentionally limit community participation, and how small operational adjustments can significantly improve attendance and satisfaction.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Define “linchpin” in the context of aquatic operations and explain why identifying linchpins improves facility reliability and outcomes.
  2. Identify the five operational linchpins of aquatic facilities: mechanical systems, staffing, planning, programming, and access.
  3. Describe key mechanical risk points—especially filtration performance and chemical control accuracy—and explain how failures can affect safety and operations.
  4. Apply preventive-planning concepts (records, schedules, budgeting, and manufacturer guidance) to reduce emergency repairs and downtime.
  5. Evaluate access barriers (pricing, location, and hours) and propose operational adjustments that improve community participation and guest experience.
