In this fast-paced world, it is easy to take for granted the importance that proper and attentive maintenance can make in everyday life. Take public swimming-pool maintenance, for example.

There are several key places around a public pool where improper maintenance can become a health and safety issue, or even a life-and-death matter.

Drowning is an obvious risk at pools, but less obvious are serious injuries from falls. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), for every child in the United States who drowns, five other children receive emergency-room care for injuries at swimming pools. Many of these slips and falls could have been avoided if surface areas had been better maintained.
