CLASS DESCRIPTION

Class Duration & Estimated CEUs/CECs

·      Class Duration: 28 minutes,10 seconds

·      Estimated CEUs/CECs: 0.05 CEUs/CECs (calculated using the standard conversion 1 CEUs/CECs = 10 contact hours; 28:10 = .4694 contact
hours, and .4694 ÷ 10 = 0.0469 CEUs/CECs rounded to the nearest hundredth)

Connecting Technology and Communities to Create Modern Parks and Recreation Solutions explores how parks and recreation agencies can leverage modern software, mobile technology, and data-driven tools to better engage their communities, streamline operations, and plan for the future. Drawing on real-world examples from CEH Recreation and its broader technology ecosystem, this session examines the power of network effects, community engagement strategies, and scalable digital solutions that support agencies of all sizes.

Participants will learn how tools such as native mobile apps, self-service check-in technologies, APIs, and emerging AI capabilities can strengthen connections between agencies and residents, improve access to services, and free staff to focus on meaningful community interactions. The session also provides practical guidance on evaluating technology vendors, engaging community feedback, and preparing responsibly for future innovations in parks and recreation.

Learning Objectives

After completing this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the concept of technology network effects and how shared platforms and partnerships can accelerate innovation and reduce risk for parks and recreation agencies.
  2. Identify ways technology can strengthen community engagement, including user groups, focus sessions, and feedback-driven service planning.
  3. Evaluate the role of native mobile apps as centralized hubs for program discovery, communication, and community connection.
  4. Recognize how self-service tools and data collection (such as mobile check-ins and kiosks) can improve patron experiences while optimizing staff efficiency.
  5. Assess emerging technologies—such as AI and APIs—responsibly, and identify key questions to ask software vendors when planning for future modernization.

After successfully passing the Knowledge Check, participants will receive a follow-up email with their quiz results, class description, and learning objectives. These records can be used to follow the self-report/self-directed method of obtaining CEUs/CECs, in which students submit materials to their accrediting organization or education chair, and the approving body makes the final determination about awarding credits.
