I stood on top of Brundage Mountain, skis pointed across the fall line, drinking in the sunshine and the view of the still-frozen lakes bordering our town way down below. It won’t be long and those lakes will be busy with wake boats, ski boats, surf boats, sailboats, kayaks, canoes, swimmers, and paddle boarders.
The summer camps on their shores will come to life with laughter and joy. The state park jutting out into the middle will be pounded by campers, mountain bikers, hikers, and more. The city parks and beaches will soon be home to sunbathers and visitors from around the world.
Hard to believe now—on this first day of spring—but summer is creeping closer, even here in northern Idaho.
