I stepped out of the house into the garage. My version of a man-cave was in a bit of disarray—the tornado that is my twin daughters had been building a tree house in our backyard and everything they used--ladder, screwdriver, miter saw (what?) was strewn across the garage floor. A rope, a dog leash, two skateboards, a RipStik, and two bikes where scattered in the driveway.

I started to call them in to clean up the mess then changed my mind. It was time for me to do the annual fall gear changeover anyway. Might as well get started now.

I started picking up the tools and putting them back in their homes. Then, I rotated out the lake stuff—inflatables, paddleboards, life jackets—and replaced it with skiing gear.
