A conversation with Jennifer Prater

When passion meets purpose, extraordinary things happen—and Jennifer Prater is living proof. Named the 2025 NAYS Volunteer Coach of the Year, she has turned the cheer program at San Diego, Calif.-based MCAS Miramar (which she created) into a thriving community of confidence and teamwork.

Her dedication goes far beyond the sidelines: she has volunteered thousands of hours each year to ensure every child feels supported and inspired, all while pursuing a law degree. She has built a program that empowers young athletes, as her approach to coaching emphasizes not only fundamentals but also life lessons that extend beyond the playing field.

Whether it’s fostering teamwork, encouraging resilience, or celebrating every small victory, she embodies the true spirit of youth sports.
