The trail followed Goose Creek, a drainage on the western side of Brundage Mountain in central Idaho. The three of us—me, my wife, Carol, and my friend from back east, Tim, stepped carefully over slippery rocks and branches as we navigated the narrow, muddy trail. Rounding a bend, we found what we were looking for—three pools of water heated by underground geothermal springs—hot springs.
The biggest pool was up the side of the drainage about 100 feet. That pool drained slowly into a second and then third pool below before disappearing into Goose Creek and heading down the hill to Boise.
We stripped down to our bathing suits and slid into nature’s hot tub—slowly relaxing and enjoying the bit of snow drifting down from above. Our conversation ran the gamut from catching up on how things were back in Ohio to making far-fetched plans for future travel.
