In 1995, I was in the market for a home for my young family. At an open house for a big colonial in a nice neighborhood, I starting talked with the realtor—an older gentleman who looked like he’d been around the block a time or two.

“What elementary school services this neighborhood?” I asked.

“Ella Canavan,” he said.
