The importance of thorough concussion-awareness training in youth sports
It has been very rewarding to work for an organization that is a leader in an industry like youth sports, which is so important to our society. It seems like it was only a couple of years ago (but it has been more than 20) that the CDC gathered a number of organizations and medical professionals to discuss the future of youth sports and how concussion awareness should be included.
As an organization, National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) acted quickly and created its own awareness training for volunteer recreational coaches. Later, it adopted the CDC’s Heads Up training as the standard for concussion-awareness training, and it still offers it today as a free supplemental training for NAYS-member coaches, parents, and administrators.
